Has a point, it was not a controlled tackle and it was dangerous. He was even looking for the ball.

after the 30th time rewatching this, I think I kinda misjudged the tackle... he won the ball tho, but that follow-through was reckless with the studs I agree. But Unai Emery's raging post-loss is very annoying fr

You actually watched the video and came to this conclusion? lol

I watched it multiple times. He gets the ball first, it's a strong but fair sliding challenge 100%. Studs are up but it's not reckless or over the top like Emery is making out. Watkins is fine too in the end

Anderson comes over the top of the ball, catches Watkins studs-up. Clear red card

Bro just outed himself here. That’s a red.

Lunges in with his foot way too high, Makes significant contact with the player, Lucky his foot wasn’t fully planted so it allowed for his heel to rotate and reduce the impact

You're so slow bro . I'm disappointed in you

Whoa, that's a reckless challenge, a red card would typically be given in the Premier League, but not enough to break Watkins' leg like Emery said.

after watching the clip for the 30th time, maybe I clearly misjudged the tackle 👍

That was a bad tackle. He could have easily broken his leg. Leave your hate for Emery and say the truth. I'm not sure you hate Emery more than I do. But in this case, Emery was right. Watkins was very lucky that he didn't get his ankle broken.

The clearest red card you’ll ever see. Stop embarrassing yourself.

Watkins is lucky could be a career ending tackle but for some reason Anderson is getting loads of pity off the ref

As much as I don’t like Emery, this is a very dangerous tackle. You’d know this if you play football.

Full studs on ankle , do break bones. What part of that confuses you 🤔

That’s definitely a breaker bro. Watkins is just lucky but he’ll definitely have a bruised/swollen ankle post match.

That’s a Red card

Red all day.

Well he’s completely gone over the ball and collected Watkins’s leg. Whether it was intentional or not it’s a bad tackle. Probably not given something detrimental because of the outcome. He could’ve fucked his legs up bad tbh.

For the record I watch every post match Villa interview. This is the first time in 4 seasons I've heard Emery complain about VAR. He felt the need to do so because this was literally a textbook studs up, could break a players leg challenge.

🙄 studs up on the ankle, red card all day long

Goes over the ball, only gets the ball with his knee as hes going studs deep into Watkins foot/ankle area Its a reckless challenge and should be a 3 game ban all day long, if this was a villa player on MGW youd be saying the exact same don't lie

Funny how no #everton fans are commenting. Can’t be impartial here and say it’s a red when they’ve been so blind to how. Bad Pickford’s challenge was.

Watch it again, that was a careless tackle from, Watkins was lucky not to have this ankle gone. Emery has a point

I know you’re a bitter Arsenal fan without even looking

How is that not a red card? Jesus!

Above the ankle on a standing leg means it's then down to luck the outcome. Thankfuly Watkins was lucky this time. It's almost the definition of a red card tackle in the laws. Excessive force & endangering the safety of an opponent.

If I talk watin dey my mind inside dem go suspend me so enjoy this video 😭

Idk if ur being sarcastic but that’s a clear red.

I’ve seen John McGin run and shoulder barge someone from that distance and be sent off.

That’s really bad and sometimes I think VAR are clueless

Ffs the villa boss applauds the tackle.

Come on bro, that's a potential ankle-breaker😐

That’s a clear red. Watkins is lucky he didn’t break his ankle.

@gooner_since05 He doesn’t take losing

are you blind??

Hate Unai and Villa. This is definitely a red though.

I can’t be arsed with VAR and the prancing fairies on the pitch, but even I can see how dangerous that could’ve been. He even gets a tiny bit more of his ankle and he’s done for the summer. This is why VAR is a bad thing, refs are less likely to actually do their job.
