such a cool sequence, studio gainax was something special man
43 Comments

This was animated by Yoh Yoshinari, not “Studio Gainax” Yoshinari still animates to this day, typically on Trigger productions which was founded by former Gainax employees

appreciate this

FLCL MENTIONED

had to, such a great watch

It’s my favorite piece of fiction ever for a reason

I don't understand why animations don't look like this anymore

idk man, time probably

At least we have remnants of Gainax in Trigger.

not wrong there

Whoa its an anime girl and shes wearing a playboy bunny outfit and doing flips and stuff holy epic bacon

Everything you loved about Gainax is Studio Trigger now. Literally all the best people left Gainax and formed Trigger because of how shit Gainax was.

One of my favorite anime of all time🎉

@Swefferre it was amazing honestly

Things are looking Madder:

The bunny fit and riding a guitar reference to Daicon Film (Gainax's previous name) They had the best demo real ever featuring a girl in a bunny suit that rode a sword

my goat flcl in 2026 🥹

Furikuri yayayyaya

Whats the show?

All time favorite.

their animators understood scale and weight of massive creatures that hasn't been matched imo

It's such a cursed studio though. One of their biggest problems is that whenever their staff got some good titles under their belt, a lot decided to "go to bigger studios", so they were a "small studio" for much longer than was healthy. Eventually this trend just formed Trigger.

Giving me FLCL vibes, was it from that show? Been a decade or two since I watched it.

Always loved this Mechanica's design, every inch the hat-and-jacket gunslinger and clearly very dangerous.. if a little too big to hit a tiny target #StickEmUp

Hey kayne ive been meaning to ask you how do u guys clip anime scenes like this

i literally screen record from my phone bro

oh ok, to be honest i thought it was more complicated than that😅 thanks Kayne! i really appreciate it🙏

@kayn3_ shut up betch

@KenzzXIX 😭😭😭

Daicon IV

I need more Looney Tunes inspired anime in my life.

this is so surreal, like, what is doing a Playboy girl using a guitar like a flying skateboard fighting with a giant robot with a shootgun

@TheOmegaWolf37 Flcl was something special as well One of reasons I learned to draw

Watched this show and it felt like fever dream

Even in Japan, this isn’t widely known, but what made FLCL truly epoch-making was that it changed the animation production workflow itself. Before FLCL, Japanese animation was still deeply rooted in a traditional craftsman culture. As an unwritten rule, each section’s output was not supposed to be altered by other departments—certainly not “at will.” FLCL broke that rule. The director worked directly with the compositing director and freely repainted and reworked the painting section’s finished materials at the compositing stage, simply to make them look cooler. After that, it gradually became common practice for directors to actively shape the visuals during the compositing process itself. There is no direct studio lineage or personal overlap, but it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the flowering of advanced compositing and cinematography techniques in Japanese animation—represented today by studios like ufotable—can be traced back to FLCL.

Iconic OST.

How does she survive that last one? She's legit in the barrel

Love FLCL

She might have lost that fight but she looked cool losing it.

Gotta remind the people this is directly referencing Daicon IV

Haruko fucking dies

They really should make more fooly cooly shame it was just those few episodes in the 2000s huh

@NaamiDaQueen What anime is this? o.o
