Such an endearing video! While writing Foreword to my forthcoming book on Haidar Ali & Tipu Sultan, respected Dr. SL Bhyrappa ji reminds us of this Kannada Lavani of 1920-30s sung in village jatres etc. The song castigates Mir Sadik as a desha drohi. That at 92, Bhyrappa ji...

@SLBhyrappa SLB was the first to publicly proclaim that these Lavanis were deliberate compositions to glorify Tipu and were all created later. While the historians probably knew, nobody was willing to speak about it.

#MYMODISTORY When I was preparing for my movie Rocketry, I got a personal experience of Modi ji’s extraordinary attentiveness. This was right after Uri had released and become a huge success. Modi ji was visiting Mumbai for an event at the, where a lot of people from the film fraternity had gathered. Everyone was eager to meet him and click pictures. I was there too — but not as myself. I was in full look of the great scientist Nambi Narayan ji, whom I was portraying as the lead role. With a big beard and full makeup, I genuinely doubted whether Modi ji would even recognize me. To my absolute surprise, the moment he saw me, he said, “Madhavan ji, you look like Nambi Narayan. Has the shooting of the film started?” I was stunned. Here was the Prime Minister of India, burdened with the responsibilities of the nation and the world, yet he not only recognized me instantly but also remembered exactly what I was working on, despite my drastically different appearance. That day, for the very first time, I took a selfie with him. Coincidentally, both of us had similar beards at the time. It remains one of my most cherished memories—because it showed me that Narendra Modi ji is not just a leader of vision, but a human being who notices, remembers, and values people in the most personal way. On your 75th birthday, wishing you the happiest birthday yet and praying for a Wonderful Happy and a Healthy year ahead for you. Narendra Modi. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

SL BYRAPPA: The Man Who Chose Me After the release of The Kashmir Files, I received a call that humbled me for life. At ninety-two, S. L. Bhyrappa had gone to a theatre to watch the film. His voice carried the weight of time, and yet the innocence of a seeker. He told me that many directors had sought to adapt his most profound work, Parva, but he had waited for someone committed to Dharma, someone who would present it as history, not mythology. And in his quiet authority he said, “I have chosen you as the right uttaradhikari.” I travelled to Mysore with his son Uday and my friend Prakash Belawadi. I expected frailty; instead, I found him driving himself, living with his wife in quiet dignity, brimming with stories of Bharat and its people. He spoke of how he had researched for seventeen years before writing Parva, so that Mahabharata could be seen not as a legend of miracles but as the civilizational memory of a nation. He had only one condition, “make it as Mahabharata without miracles, for Mahabharata itself is the once-in-a-Brahman miracle.” I acquired the rights, and since then we have been working, searching for the right form. Prakash Belawadi later wrote it in English and staged a nine-hour play in Bangalore. I can never forget that day. A hall built for eleven hundred overflowed with thirteen hundred souls. Within twenty minutes of the play, I heard people sobbing. Not one person left for nine hours. By the end, swollen eyes testified to an experience beyond theatre. It was not entertainment; it was revelation. The turmoils, reflections, and countless mirrors of Dharma transformed each spectator. Whoever entered that hall in the morning walked out as someone else. I have not seen any creative work touch me so profoundly. Bhyrappa ji too was present. As he left, he said words I can never erase: “I haven’t chosen you. Mahabharata has chosen you. Make it fearlessly. It will lead you to truth.” I promised him that no matter how long it takes, I will tell this history of Bharat. Today, as I write this farewell, I know this is my last work as a filmmaker, for what else can be said after Parva? Storytellers like S. L. Bhyrappa never die. They dissolve into their stories, becoming eternal witnesses of Dharma. Om Shanti!

A Tribute to the Spirit of Our Democracy 🇮🇳 Honoured to join Hon Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai ji and our leader, Hon Union Minister Nitin Gadkari ji to inaugurate the ‘Constitution Preamble Park’ at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, and unveil the iconic statue of Maha Manav Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. This isn’t just a park—it’s a space that brings the soul of our Constitution into public life. For me, it was especially moving. This is the very campus where I first studied the spirit of our democracy, and today, it stands as a beacon of those timeless values. My heartfelt appreciation to all who shaped this remarkable initiative. Our Constitution is not only the world’s most comprehensive, but also one of its most visionary. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar fused global principles with India’s civilisational ethos—anchoring our nation in justice, equality, liberty, and dignity. To mark the Constitution's Amrit Mahotsav year, we launched a unique campaign: to make the Preamble a household presence. With the energy of our youth leading the way, it has already reached over 80% of homes across Nagpur district. The remaining are soon to follow. I truly believe that if we live by the values of our Constitution, we’ll resolve most of our national challenges at their roots. India’s rise as the world’s fourth-largest economy is not just economic progress it’s a validation of the constitutional vision that guides us. A vision consistently upheld and advanced under the leadership of Hon PM Narendra Modi ji. We are also moving ahead with plans to build a new facility for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Law College—an institution that shaped my own journey and continues to inspire countless others.
