What happened with your case with Bonko?

1/4 I reported the matter to the police approximately 8 months after the incident, following the production company’s failure to fulfil an agreed civil remedy, which included therapy and a written apology, later negotiated into a mediated meeting.

2/4 When that process broke down, I was directed to SAPS by the production company’s legal rep. The investigating officer for my case disputed whether it constituted SA because he believed sexual assault can only happen “by the hands”. If his hands grabbed the private part.

3/4 After we established that sexual assault encompasses various forms of non-consensual sexual contact, he argued that the case was complicated because it had initially been handled as a civil matter, given the production company’s agreement to facilitate a remedy.

4/4 The witnesses, including production personnel, became reluctant to give their statements. Prosecutor informed me that contact attempts to secure their cooperation were unsuccessful. With the investigation unable to progress, I accepted the proposed closure of the case.

Damn. It took immense courage to speak up and try to open that case, especially in an industry where people are terrified of losing their jobs. You did everything right, and you should be proud of your strength❤️

Thank you mama ❤️🫂 It was tough…incredibly scary. But I’m grateful I never traded my dignity for social acceptance or the possibility of being chosen. A blessing in disguise, really. Some battles just clarify what we truly believe in.
