HOW DID LAND MEANT FOR MURANG’A AND KIMBU RESIDENTS END UP IN THE HANDS OF FOREIGN INVESTORS? The land surrendered by Del Monte in Murang’a County, measuring over 7,000 acres, was meant to bring justice to the local community. When I served as Speaker of the National Assembly, Parliament made a clear resolution that this land be allocated to nearly 4,000 local beneficiaries who had waited for years for rightful settlement. That decision represented hope for many families who believed that, at last, fairness would prevail. It is therefore deeply disturbing that a portion of this land has now been allocated to investors from Bangladesh under the watch of President William Ruto, while many of the intended beneficiaries remain without land. This is unacceptable. The people of Murang’a cannot be sidelined while their land is handed to outsiders. The United Alternative Government will ensure that the will of Parliament and the rights of the local community are respected, and that land meant for the people is returned and allocated transparently and lawfully.

An American influencer recently shared a video of Riau province in Sumatra on social media, claiming, “This is what deforestation looks like from above.” While his intention was good, the footage actually shows an area after the harvesting of a monoculture pulpwood plantation. I know this because I was Sustainability MD of a large pulp and paper company for almost 15 years. The barren land is not a result of natural forest clearing; it was likely deforested and converted into plantation land by the company more than six years ago. We need to stop deforestation and work towards restoring the damaged ecosystem.

A few years ago, a local king gave just 3.65 acres of land to Muslims in Dhar Chandna, Himachal Pradesh. Now they have allegedly removed the decimal and encroached upon 365 acres of forest land. Rakesh Uttrakhandi has urged the CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to investigate and reclaim the land.

Now, Chris Kunzler here makes one of the most important cases for land reform, giving Alexandra as an example, where vast tracts of land lie unused (and owned by Europeans who inherited the land from previous thieves), but the land cannot be used to resettle the crowded people of Alex. A drive around Gauteng will show that there exists these vast tracts of land around the most overpopulated townships, but the government cannot use this land because it is obscenely priced for the willing buyer and willing seller BS.
