This week, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani filmed a “tax the rich” video outside Ken Griffin’s $238 million Manhattan penthouse, pushing a proposed pied-à-terre tax on luxury second homes over $5 million. Forty-eight hours later, Citadel signaled it may reconsider a $6 billion redevelopment at 350 Park Avenue, a project tied to 6,000 construction jobs and 15,000 permanent jobs. Citadel says Griffin, employees, and principals have already paid roughly $2.3 billion in New York city and state taxes over the last five years. Griffin already moved Citadel’s headquarters to Miami in 2022. When you further create friction with job creators, investors, and business owners, they do not magically pay more. They move. Florida is open for business.

It would cost 1.28 million PKR to fill up the tanks of 30 SUVs (80 litre) at the increased fuel price of 535 rs per litre. Pakistani officials including the President, Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, Chief Justices and others have been frequently seen travelling in motorcades of over 30 cars which consist mostly of SUVs using high octane, police mobiles and even ambulances. Now the Pakistani taxpayer will pay 60-70% more to fulfil the indulgences of our elite which prefers to travel whilst accompanied with dozens of luxury and security vehicles. CM Punjab also recently acquired a new Gulfstream VIP jet for upwards of $40 million. It is not immediately clear whether the government will increase the tax on jet fuel.
