So glad there is video. Inserting herself in the middle of what her grown son was handling well enough, to get a notice instead of a misdemeanor, just illustrated her expectation of favorable treatment.
Oh, he called her and on speakerphone she said “tell them your mother is a federal prosecutor”. The first fucking words “get out of accountability by telling them who mummy is and how she will ruin them”

She not only inappropriately brought up her previous career as a federal prosecutor several times, but implied heavily that she was currently a federal prosecutor. That is a federal crime: 18 U.S. Code § 912.

While on the phone with her son she instructed him to tell the officers that “your mother is a federal prosecutor” — full stop, no “former,” no qualifier. It was only after that gambit failed to move the officers that Hostin showed up in person and, this time, carefully inserted the word “former” into every sentence. That is not a minor slip. Hostin spent years as a federal prosecutor; she knows precisely what that title means and precisely what it doesn’t mean anymore. The fact that her first instinct — under pressure, in the moment, with her son in handcuffs — was to invoke federal authority she no longer holds, and that the qualifier only appeared once the unqualified version didn’t get results, is hard to read as anything other than a calculated attempt to intimidate law enforcement. That is precisely the conduct 18 U.S.C. § 912 exists to punish, and precisely the kind of dishonesty that state bar rules on candor and misrepresentation (Rule 8.4(c), Rule 4.1) were written to prevent.

She'll claim that they only approached him because he's Black. She'll refuse to acknowledge that railroad tracks are how some people try to commit su*ci*de, and the police were most likely trying to prevent something like that, or a terrible accident of some sort. Her kid might have graduated from Harvard, but he clearly doesn't have the sense to "stay out of the rain" (or off of railroad tracks).
