It’s energy storage. The total energy exerted is less than the energy it took to raise the weight in the beginning. Same thing could be done with a bent over tree instead of a weight over a limb. Friction causes a loss of energy throughout the entire system. I believe real power is in fire moving this entire contraption due to the energy there is being released via heat into the system. My newest venture is turning fire into electricity, which happens all the time, but I’m going to try to do it with a lot less friction

Looks like a Rotisserie on an analog timer that eventually has to be wound up again. Looks cool, but seems like a lot of work for something you can just rotate by hand.
