Public employment and judgeship are something that students aspire to, and as a nation, we are trying to promote this. Earlier, the Supreme Court had mandated a three-year practice requirement before a person could become a judge. With the solution the Supreme Court has come out with today, it has done away with the one-year requirement in the first place. In the second year, they become trainee judges and undergo training with salaries being paid, of course, at a slightly different level. The third year is a period of law clerkship. Also, in 2027, the one-year requirement will not be applicable. After 2027, when the requirement comes into effect again, the Supreme Court has evolved a pragmatic solution. They will become eligible to become trainee judges in the first instance, thereby giving complete light to the dreams and aspirations of law students. I think this is a way forward."
