The film's poignant portrayal of self-discovery, social responsibility, and connection with one's roots resonated deeply, sparking introspection and a sense of purpose

One of the greatest films of Indian Cinema. Not appreciated enough.

“25 paise ka ek glass! paani, lo paani!” A haunting scene, not because it’s scary or anything! We are seeing the condition of our society. Mohan being an NRI looking at the boy in disbelief and wondering the pain, the sadness and pitying his powerlessness! Only thing he can do is to drink the water and weep while looking at the abyss! A longing shot of the train, as we see the boy counting his earned coins. “Swades” being a flop is a massive slap to us as an audience. This is Cinema ❤️

Swades is an absolute classic! The epic story of Mohan, an NRI who returns to India and reconnects with his roots - pure magic. It's amazing that it's been 19 years since this gem of a film was released. It's stood the test of time and remains a timeless masterpiece of Indian cinema.
