The Black Swan (Cygnus atratus) is an Australian water bird, belonging to the Anatidae family, the same family as ducks, geese, and other swans. It is the official state bird of Western Australia. They can be found in all states of Australia. In Europe, it was accidentally introduced and has self-sufficient populations in Great Britain, Iceland, Poland and the Netherlands. The adult animal can weigh up to 9 kg. Unlike many other waterfowl, black swans do not have migratory habits. They spend their lives in the place where they were born. 🖤 They nest in large embankments they build in the middle of shallow lakes. The nests are used from year to year, repairing and rebuilding when necessary. The nest is both in the care of the male and the female. When the chicks are already able to swim, with their definitive plumage, it is common to see entire families in search of food in the lakes.
