Instead, it has turned into a parking lot for commercial taxis. Public roads cannot become private parking spaces. Manikonda Residents Demand Immediate Road Widening and Traffic Relief Today, residents of Manikonda and surrounding colonies gathered at Marrichettu and conducted a Walkathon up to OU Colony, demanding immediate widening of the Marrichettu–OU Colony Road, which has become severely congested. The traffic situation is particularly unbearable during peak hours. Commuters, pedestrians, senior citizens and school-going children are facing serious difficulties. Most importantly, emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire tenders are often unable to move freely, creating a serious threat to public safety. The Manikonda Praja AIKYA Vedika, a people’s movement, demands the following immediate measures: Immediate widening of the Marrichettu–OU Colony Road to address the chronic traffic congestion. Immediate opening of alternate routes, including the TRAILS–Road No.10, Panchavati Colony Box Drain-cum-Road, which was constructed nearly two years ago at a cost of about ₹10 crore from taxpayers’ money. This road is a public asset and cannot be kept unused or effectively left for the exclusive benefit or usage of a private builder. Construction of the Shivpuri–Chitrapuri route via Jana Chaitanya Colony to provide an additional alternative corridor and reduce pressure on the existing road network. Shifting of the RTA Office from Shivpuri Colony, as its present location contributes to traffic congestion and inconvenience to residents. Immediate shifting of all electrical poles obstructing the carriageway and footpaths, ensuring safe and unobstructed movement for pedestrians and vehicles. Utilisation of all available setbacks for road-widening purposes, wherever legally permissible, instead of allowing them to be used as commercial parking spaces that further reduce the effective road width. The residents demand that all these measures be implemented within a clearly defined, time-bound action plan, with responsibility fixed on the concerned authorities. The people of Manikonda have been suffering from this traffic crisis for far too long. Road infrastructure must keep pace with population growth and urban development. Public roads and public assets cannot be allowed to remain underutilised while citizens struggle every day. If the authorities fail to initiate concrete action within a reasonable and time-bound period, the residents will be compelled to launch a mass movement, including a Rasta Roko programme, to draw the attention of the government and ensure their legitimate demands are addressed. Swift Inter-Departmental Action Saves Swept-Away Elephant Family in Katarniaghat, UP On August 25, 2026, at approximately 10:20 AM, Katarniaghat Range Headquarters received a wireless message via the Kailashpuri Barrier reporting that a herd of elephants—comprising 3 adults and 2 calves—were being swept by the strong river current towards the Girjapuri Barrage in Kaudiyala river. Current was too strong for the calves and they were flowing with it. The adults too followed them possibly to save them but even they were finding it difficult to swim. Upon receiving this information, RO Katarniaghat immediately proceeded to the Girjapuri Barrage with a team of forest personnel. To counter the strong river flow, irrigation department was promptly contacted. Irrigation department was very swift and prompt and immediately closed the barrage gate thereby halting the rapid current. Once the current slowed down, adult elephants quickly got in control of the situation and guided the young calves to safety. Subsequently, by creating noise and commotion (hanka), the herd—which had reached the vicinity of the barrage gates—was driven back into the forest area. The herd of wild elephants has safely moved into the forest zone. Credit goes to entire Range staff for their quick thinking and prompt action and irrigation department for their prompt support.

While most of us were sheltered from last night’s poor weather, our marine crew, including the Port of Cork pilots and pilot launch crew, were out in challenging conditions ensuring the safe arrival of vessels and the smooth running of vital supply chains. ⚓🌊 The video below, captured by Pilot Michael McCarthy, shows the Sofia R, a bulk carrier carrying grain, arriving into Cork Harbour amid rough seas. During the operation, the retrieval line was found to be rigged on the wrong side of the ladder. Our pilot requested the vessel to alter course to create more of a lee and asked the crew to move the line to the other side, ensuring a safer boarding in difficult conditions. This footage is a reminder of the skill, communication, and dedication shown by our pilots and marine crews, who work around the clock, often in tough weather, to keep Cork Harbour open and ships moving safely. 👏

A Change of Plan…🌍 A little insight into the realities of airline flying: sometimes the route you see on your flight tracker isn’t the one we originally planned. That’s because flight planning is a mix of science, safety, and flexibility. 🌐 One reason for changes is ATC flow management. Think of it like traffic lights in the sky, with thousands of aircraft moving through shared corridors, air traffic control sometimes adjusts our routes to keep the system flowing smoothly and safely. But today’s change wasn’t about traffic. It was about performance planning. Departing Delhi, our A350 was heavy with fuel and passengers, and the original routing led straight into an area of very high terrain. With a twin-engine aircraft, we always consider the “what if”: if one engine were to fail, how would the aircraft perform? Safety means ensuring we can still fly clear of terrain even under those conditions. That’s where ETOPS (Extended-range Twin-engine Operations) and drift down procedures come in. ETOPS rules let two-engine aircraft fly long oceanic and remote routes, but only with strict planning to guarantee diversion options. Drift down is the scenario where, after losing one engine, we calculate how the aircraft can descend to a level where it can safely continue flight and clear terrain. These are baked into every flight plan, and sometimes, the numbers don’t add up and they mean taking the longer way around. So today, instead of climbing northwest out of India, we turned south. The routing took us over Oman and the UAE, up the length of the Gulf, across Iraq, and back into our original track over western Turkey. That’s also where we passed one of my favourite places: the airfield named Batman 🦇. 👨‍✈️ It’s a great reminder that flying isn’t just point-to-point. Every route is carefully designed with safety, performance, and the flow of global air traffic in mind. It also means that we had a great opportunity to get some air-to-air pics of other aircraft. Today's heavy rain around 3:00 PM exposed a serious civic issue. The drainage grate on the Veerannapalya Flyover (Nagawara to Hebbal road) became completely blocked with garbage, causing severe waterlogging. Within minutes, the flyover was flooded, forcing traffic to come to a standstill and resulting in a 3–4 km traffic jam. I was at home when I noticed the heavy congestion on Google Maps. I immediately put on my raincoat and rushed to the location. By the time I arrived, Sector Cobra personnel had also reached the spot. Together, we cleared the garbage blocking the drainage grate. Within 15 minutes, the water drained away and traffic resumed smoothly. What surprised me the most was that more than 100 people were standing there watching, yet no one stepped forward to remove the debris. If just a few people had taken the initiative, thousands of commuters could have been spared from unnecessary delays. Even more concerning is the negligence of the agencies responsible for maintaining stormwater drains. Because of poor maintenance, the burden often falls on Traffic Police, Traffic Wardens, volunteers, and responsible citizens to solve problems that should have been prevented in the first place. Let's not be citizens who only complain. Whenever it is safe to do so, let's become part of the solution. Sometimes, a small act of responsibility can save thousands of people from inconvenience. A responsible city is built by responsible citizens. Let's all do our part. From despair to hope and from struggle to triumph, this is the incredible story of a wild elephant mother's fight for survival backed by a dedicated and professional team of foresters and vets from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu Forest Department .The mother elephant was found sick and lying on ground with her 3 months old baby roaming around her in confusion and distress.The team consulted experts and vets and successfully lifted her with the help of a crane. She was kept supported by the crane for three days while being treated by Vets. Her baby joined the herd and other siblings roaming in the nearby forests visiting the mother in the night. Thanks to the treatment,she gained enough strength and was released to freedom in the wild today. We are monitoring her to keep an eye on her well being. MUSHIN–IYANA ISOLO ROAD: FROM ABANDONMENT TO COMPLETION The Mushin–Iyana Isolo Road project had long been abandoned, leaving residents, motorists, and business owners to endure severe hardship, traffic congestion, poor accessibility, and economic setbacks. Recognizing the strategic importance of this road to the movement of people, goods, and services within Oshodi-Isolo and adjoining communities, I took deliberate steps to ensure the project did not remain abandoned. Following my intervention, I formally engaged the Federal Ministry of Works, drawing urgent attention to the deplorable condition of the road and the need for immediate government action. This effort yielded positive results as the Honourable Minister of Works directed the Permanent Secretary to inspect the project site. The inspection became a turning point that led to the revival of the project, its re-award to Stranbic Construction Limited, and the successful completion of Phase One from Iyana-Isolo to Pako Junction amd from Pako to Oke-afa inwards Jakande Gate Today, what was once an abandoned and deteriorating road has been rehabilitated and restored for public use, significantly improving mobility, easing traffic congestion, boosting commercial activities, and bringing much-needed relief to residents and commuters. Beyond the rehabilitation and completion of the Mushin–Iyana Isolo Road, I also facilitated the rehabilitation of 10 adjoining roads connecting Iyana-Isolo to Jakande to Ikotun to Cele Express all within Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II. They include: - Falana Street - Kogberegbe Street - Akinbaiya Street - Ehingbeti Street - Ehingbeti Spur - Olu Ajulo/Okeho Street - Abimbola Street - Cowbell Road - Kamoru Adeyemi Street - Jimoh Faronbi Street These interventions form part of my broader commitment to improving road infrastructure, enhancing accessibility, supporting businesses, and improving the quality of life for our people. One of THE MOST impactful changes we can make to urban roads in India is to maintain consistent road widths from one intersection to the next. Our current, variable road widths disrupt the orderly flow of traffic. For example, if there's just a bit of extra space on the side, auto-rickshaws attempt to squeeze in, causing chaos. If a road suddenly narrows from three lanes to two and a half, congestion follows. In cities like London, when extra right-of-way is found, the footpaths are widened up to the road. But in Mumbai, we tend to expand the road instead. The issue with this approach is that the number of private vehicles in a densely populated city like Mumbai can grow without limits. Expanding roads only encourages more vehicles. On the other hand, widening footpaths doesn't cause the same problem because the space required for pedestrians is limited—walking is highly space-efficient. #WalkingProject

A 32-year-old woman was killed after the motorcycle on which she was travelling lost control while trying to avoid a pothole at Ananthanagar near Hebbagodi in Anekal taluk on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The deceased, Medha, a native of Kerala, was working at the Provident Fund office in Electronic City. She was travelling as a pillion rider with her friend Ajay Guru when the accident occurred. According to the information available, a car travelling ahead of the motorcycle suddenly applied brakes while attempting to avoid a pothole. The motorcycle rider reportedly lost control of the vehicle and Medha, who was seated on the pillion, fell onto the road. At the same time, a goods vehicle coming from behind ran over her neck. She suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. The accident triggered anger among local residents, who staged a protest at the spot and blocked the road. Residents alleged that several roads in and around Electronic City were in poor condition and riddled with potholes. They demanded immediate action from the authorities to repair the damaged roads and prevent further accidents. Residents also lit candles and paid tribute to Medha. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and the condition of roads in the rapidly developing Electronic City-Anekal corridor.
