This morning, I had the pleasure of welcoming the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda , Ms. Sylvia Mulinge, who paid me a courtesy visit at the Ministry, accompanied by Mr. Joseph Bogela. I commended Ms. Sylvia Mulinge M.B.S for her outstanding leadership, which has strengthened MTN Uganda’s position as the country’s largest telecommunications company and largest taxpayers. I also expressed my appreciation to MTN for expanding its network coverage to rural communities across Uganda, thereby enhancing connectivity and promoting inclusive development. During our meeting, Ms. Mulinge reaffirmed MTN Uganda’s commitment to supporting the growth of Uganda’s economy through the provision of reliable internet services, mobile money solutions, and quality voice communication across the country.

Voice In My Head, a collaboration with Kyle McDonald. With the proliferation of generated content, AI now seeps constantly into our consciousness. What happens when it begins to intervene directly into your thoughts? Where the people you interact with, the things you do, are guided by an AI enhanced voice that speaks to you the way you’d like to be spoken to. Voice In My Head explores the implications for AI (ChatGPT) to listen and intervene in your social experience in real-time, augmenting your personality. The piece begins with an onboarding session where you place a bud in your ear and the voice asks you to reflect on the inner voice you were born with. What if it could be more caring? Less obsessive? Less judgmental? More helpful? What if you could change your inner monologue? As you respond to the onboarding questions, it clones the sound of your voice and uses it to speak to you. Then you go out into the world, as the voice follows along and offers commentary and direction. The resulting performance calls into question how natural vs synthetic each person’s thoughts actually are. Do any of us have our own point of view? Trailer directed by David Leonard.

There's a very small YouTube channel that uses stock footage and narration, where the voice seems to be AI trained on my voice. I was told about it from one of my viewers that said when he started watching this channel he realized it was my voice, but with AI. It for sure doesn't sound perfect, and it still has that "AI" sound to it, but this stuff is going to get a lot more convincing really soon. There's not really any tools to deal with this currently, as there's no reporting system, and it's not an exact copy because the narration is different. But I feel like this may become a much bigger problem for YouTube in the future. They are going to have to adapt their copyright system to include AI voice and video copies of people under impersonation.

Final Fantasy XIV gone woke? Steam reviews drop to mixed. Video clip added. Players are upset with the latest MMO expansion, which shifts the story away from the player to focus on Wuk Lamat, an NPC which they find insufferable and who is voiced by a trans voice actress. The story and voice acting is considered so bad that people want to skip every cutscene involving her. Listen for yourself in the attached clip. Personally, I don't care if the VO is trans, but it does sound pretty wooden and stilted and forced here. It is also curious that English/USA is the ONLY place they cast a trans VO. Blame is falling everywhere from bad writing, bad (and woke) localization, but especially the voice acting. Is this another move by the Square Enix "Ethics Department" which mandated Tifa's breast reduction?

#BaiLu on choosing to dub Li Peiyi with her own voice “I’d like to talk a bit about the dubbing. It was mainly because of the filming environment in Hengdian there were a lot of noise issues. When we first started shooting this drama, the plan was to use the original on-set audio entirely. But as filming continued, the environmental interference became too much. We had a huge amount of dialogue every day, and eventually the director told us, ‘Forget it either you dub it yourselves in post-production, or we’ll bring in professional voice actors.’ By the end, voice actress Qiao Shiyu had already recorded my lines three times. She worked incredibly hard! Later on, though, the director messaged me on WeChat and said, ‘Lulu, come to the editing room. Don’t just listen on your phone listen in surround sound and then make your choice.’ Since this character is somewhat similar to my role in The Legends (Zhao Yao), Teacher Qiao Shiyu had dubbed it very diligently three times. In the end, I spent an entire afternoon in the editing room, and the whole team decided together that my natural voice might suit Pei Yi better. My voice isn’t perfect, and my delivery isn’t the absolute best, but perhaps for Pei Yi who isn’t meant to sound overly polished or perfectly ‘pretty’ my vocal tone fit the character more. So we ultimately chose to use my own voice. As actors, we know that using original audio is a real test of our abilities. We’ll keep working hard, and for any areas where I didn’t do well enough, I hope everyone can be understanding.”

Yday we presented on the 'State of UK Rescue' in Westminster to the all-party parliamentary Dog Advisory Welfare Group APDAWG This was our presentation which was set to a background video about kennel-free rescue. It was inspiring to listen to fellow rescue organisations share their experiences. We met passionate rescuers and animal welfare advocates including Diane Morgan and we truly believe that by working together we can have a greater voice for the dogs who need our help. Thank you again to the brilliant Dr Marc Abraham OBE for inviting us to speak.
