Syria has suffered a devastating earthquake; hundreds reported dead. This war-ravaged country is under crippling US sanctions. In 2019, current senior US official Dana Stroul bragged that most of Syria is "rubble" and that the US can "hold the line on preventing reconstruction."

I don't how the architects/cheerleaders of the dirty war/murderous US sanctions on Syria look themselves in the mirror. That question becomes newly salient today as Syria deals with an earthquake that has added more rubble to that which foreign sadists created and maintained.

The US military occupies 1/3 of Syria, stealing its oil and wheat. Combined with the US sanctions, this military occupation deprives Syria of the fuel it needs to power vehicles and machines. That will make it even more difficult to rescue people trapped under the rubble.

@dstroul What a ghoul! The withholding of reconstruction aid is a crime against the non-combatant population. It is a war crime! I guess just add it to the gigantic list of US war crimes.

@dstroul Remember the then US sec of state Albright on 60 mins back in 1996 calmly replied to the question of US sanctions having killed 500k Iraqi children with "We think its worth it".

@dstroul The Syrian people are not Syrian soldiers. We must be careful not to hurt innocent bystanders in any conflict. This is the difference between being a good guy or a bad guy.

Biden admin has bombed Syria in response, it says, to attacks on US forces. What Biden or US media won't explain is why US forces are really in Syria -- even though a senior US official has done so very clearly. According to the Pentagon's Dana Stroul, the US military is there so that the US can "own" Syria’s "resource-rich" northeast -- where the oil and wheat is -- to give the US "leverage" over Syria's political future, i.e. regime change. This is why Biden has put US troops in harm's way in Syria, and this is why he's bombing it.

Jon Stewart reminds him that, in fact: "We did though in Syria, we just didn't talk about it." Jon invokes the fact that US arms went to al-Nusra -- the Al Qaeda front in Syria that now rules the country. He also tells a story of running into US operatives in neighboring Jordan, where the CIA trained insurgents and helped coordinate their offensives. In 2012, Jake Sullivan infamously wrote that "Al Qaeda is on our side in Syria." This is the first time I've ever seen him asked about that policy.
