🇹🇼🇨🇳 Taiwan is rapidly transforming its Coast Guard into an additional layer of naval combat power as it prepares for the possibility of a Chinese invasion or maritime blockade. According to The Wall Street Journal, Taipei is significantly expanding the Coast Guard’s wartime role and integrating it more closely... with Taiwan’s Navy. Taiwanese Coast Guard vessels are being equipped with anti-ship missiles, while their crews are increasingly training alongside naval forces. During this year’s 10-day Han Kuang military exercises, the Coast Guard participated in 33 separate drills, including simulations of repelling a Chinese amphibious landing and escorting commercial vessels through a maritime blockade. The strategy gives Taiwan a larger and more distributed fleet without relying exclusively on traditional warships.
