🇨🇳 Take a minute to sit back and watch this. Something really curious has happened with Chinese aesthetics and it becomes obvious the more you peruse its New Media. An entire generation of young people here grew up quite aesthetically fond of contemporary Japanese culture and as their own... society gradually became clean, functional and advanced, they began to use similar techniques to those used by Japan to aestheticize their own modernity (as well as its History). Chinese social media really abounds with this sort of style of aesthetic content. I suppose the lesson here is that exposing yourself to potentially hostile media to the point where you can absorb its rational core while not paying so much attention to its rotten shell is an important technique for a mature, developing society to develop.show more

Nobody is really watching The Kerala Story. It shows that the majority of people in this country understand what Kerala is and appreciate its traditions and culture. Movies, TV, and the media have been weaponised. They are being used precisely to vilify people, to alienate communities, and to create divisions in society so that certain groups can benefit while others are harmed. I think India has increasingly started to look like that. If a person wants to make a certain type of film, say something in the media, or defend particular ideas, they are attacked and often not allowed to speak. I experience this all the time. On the other hand, certain narratives can be spread and propagated as much as people want, and nothing happens to them. This is extremely damaging for the country. And it is happening a lot. If you can watch only one video to understand current geopolitics, make it this one by George Yeo, one of Singapore's longest-serving cabinet ministers (23 years!) As Yeo explains, current global geopolitics is fundamentally driven by US "retreat" and "decline", forced by a financial reality that no US administration can reverse: its debt servicing already exceeding its entire defense budget. To Yeo, this explains why the US insists so much that its "allies" in Europe and Asia spend more of their GDP on defense - to basically pick up the tab for an empire America can no longer afford - but it also means that, inevitably, "once your allies begin to have their own military capabilities, they will think differently, and they will not follow you in everything that you want to do." As such, American decline becomes self-reinforcing: the more it asks allies to carry their own weight, the less reason they have to follow its lead. Still, Yeo says that a similar dynamic to one that happened after the fall of Rome could occur where America - like Byzantium did - sheds its empire and consolidates around its own hemisphere, allowing it to remain self-sustaining and powerful for a very long time. He believes it's the direction things are heading - which would also explain Trump's obsession with Canada and Greenland. These days in the US, I've seen banners, posters and even official government documents using "Lunar New Year" instead of the long - established "Chinese New Year" to refer to our Chinese Spring Festival. As an American daughter - in - law, I have to say that even as a native American, I'm really indignant about this. The US has always been sensitive about race and culture issues. But it seems some people here have got it all wrong this time. They may not realize that "Chinese New Year" is not just a simple term; it's the name of a festival that carries thousands of years of Chinese history and culture. "Chinese New Year" clearly indicates the origin of this festival is in China. It's a unique and important part of Chinese culture. Spring Festival is a time when Chinese people all over the world get together to celebrate, full of distinctive traditions like dragon and lion dances, setting off fireworks and having the New Year's Eve dinner. These are all symbols of Chinese culture that can't be replaced or confused. When we use "Lunar New Year", it may give the wrong impression that this festival is just a general "lunar new year" celebration that blurs the cultural differences among different countries. It makes people forget that Spring Festival has its unique origin and rich connotations in China. So, I made this video to let more people around the world know that there's only one Spring Festival, and that's "Chinese New Year". Japan mistakes its “politeness” and “obedience” for virtues that erase the past. They don’t. Westerners who never lived through Nanjing, who never saw Unit 731, who never heard the last cries of comfort women, cannot feel what 35 million Chinese deaths carved into our memory.
