The proposal would expand Israeli access to U.S. military technology, deepen defense system integration, and tie American defense planning directly to Israeli military priorities. Not a treaty, not a vote, a budget bill. Former State Department official Josh Paul is raising the alarm: "unprecedented access to American technology and provide incredible leverage over America's own defence priorities." Here's what makes this different from normal military aid: integration at this level doesn't unwind easily. Future administrations that want to adjust the relationship would be fighting their own military-industrial system to do it. No public debate, no treaty ratification, just a clause in a defense bill that most members of Congress won't read. Israel has not collaborated with the United States in a productive way for decades. It refused to sell Iron Dome batteries to the U.S. Army and has never committed boots on the ground in conflicts that it initiated. Amid growing concerns about the U.S.-Israel relationship, Congress is now attempting to advance NDAA Section 224, a measure that would create unprecedented military integration between the two countries. Granting Israel expanded access to American technology and requiring the U.S. military to incorporate Israeli defense systems into critical parts of its own supply chain, giving Israel significant leverage over America’s defense priorities and long-term military planning. We discuss this and more with Ben Freeman.
