this is a great message but it’s hard to quantify at what point in people’s lives they need to hear it. I would need this message and someone to walk me/mentor me through it in my early 20s. I took a lot of risk, in many ways it paid off but not for things ultimately +EV. My boss was always the net recipient. Fast forward nearly 20 years and I’ve finally realized my 17 year career has been largely a sham - at least for future me now. Future me 15 years ago, it was the best possible play I could have made never graduating high school. I agree with so much of the sentiment, especially about college but it’s so, so, so challenging to internalize these things without living and experiencing them. That’s one benefit of taking the risk, learning what it is to lose, to win. Learning the value of a dollar but most importantly the value of your time. I think the sooner we try for something we actually want or care about in life and fail, the infinitely better not only next outcomes will be but most certainly perspective and appreciation.
