The TV show skipped his story, so here’s what happened in the books • Stormcloud was the dragon of Prince Aegon Targaryen, the future Aegon III. • Aegon was only nine years old when the Dance of the Dragons began. • Aegon and his brother Viserys were sent away from the war zone for their safety. • They travelled aboard the ship Gay Abandon, with Stormcloud accompanying Aegon. • During the journey, the Triarchy fleet attacked and captured their ship in the Gullet. • Viserys was captured by the enemy, while Aegon managed to escape with Stormcloud. • Aegon mounted Stormcloud and attempted to fly back to Dragonstone. • It was essentially Stormcloud’s first major flight with Aegon—and it became his final one. • The Triarchy attacked Stormcloud with arrows and scorpion bolts as he tried to escape. • Stormcloud was horribly wounded, suffering numerous arrow wounds and a scorpion bolt through his neck. • Despite his devastating injuries, Stormcloud continued flying and carried Aegon all the way to Dragonstone. • Stormcloud successfully delivered Aegon to safety, saving the young prince’s life. • However, Stormcloud’s injuries were fatal. He died within an hour of reaching Dragonstone. • Aegon never mounted another dragon after Stormcloud’s death. The loss deeply affected him and contributed to his later reputation as Aegon the Dragonbane.
