Vet was right. He only ever moved away from the other guy. That other guy then continued to berate him, insinuating violence and instigating a fight. He then walked 20-30ft towards him, implying he had means to handle violence(gun/knife). The Vet took no chances with his life.

He even apologized. I can't find the sentencing or plea deal online.
