When you hear the advice "hire the best," this is what that looks like: "We had a candidate who came and interviewed. He was a junior at MIT and very very young. We gave him our interview and he did way better than almost any of the full-time candidates that we had ever talked to. So we said to him, what do you think about taking some time off of school and working with us and building out Devin? And he thought about it for a while, and he came back, and he said I'm down, I want to do it, but my parents really want me to graduate from school, and I'm just not sure there's a way to make it work. So we talked with him more to fully understand the situation, and then we flew to North Carolina, went straight from the airport to his parents' house, had dinner with him and his parents, and tried to understand, all right, what would it take to make this work? They said it sounds like a great opportunity, but we really want our son to be able to graduate. So we figured out a setup where he could work for us essentially full time, but then come in for his required classes, and do what he needed to do to get the diploma. More than that, we got to a point where everyone was happy Then we went straight back to the airport and flew home." – Scott Wu, CEO and co-founder of @cognition, makers of Devin

Wow. I just saw an episode from The Journey featuring Steven Izzo from Michigan State and it was powerful. He is a 5th year walk on and son of coach Tom Izzo. In this clip, he scored his first official basket of his career. Tom had this to say: “He came over and gave me a hug and I told him I loved him. I looked around and I said my kid just made 15,000 people…happy. If I died that day, I’d been ok.”
