Cocchiarella: Trump to me is kind of this dementia addled, nursing home patient in the WH right now. He's leaning on Vought and Stephen Miller because he doesn't want to get the job done. What Trump wants to do is take this as an opportunity, in my opinion, to go out and golf to, I guess, maybe remodel some more parts of the WH. He just doesn't seem interested in negotiating. He's taking pleasure in what Russ Vought said would be the traumatizing of federal workers. That was their goal coming into this administration. And so it seems like that's all they want to do. And I don't know how that gets any Democrat who actually cares about people who are going to see their premiums double, triple come to the table. And why would you? Last night, The Senate voted (77-19) to advance a bipartisan short-term funding measure (CR) to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the week. This morning, Speaker McCarthy said that the Senate CR is dead on arrival. Why? Because it includes some money for Ukraine, which MTG and other pro-Putin extremists in his party refuse to back. McCarthy could do the right thing and support the Senate CR since at least 70% of House Republicans support funding for Ukraine, but he's terrified of Matt Gaetz, MTG, and Donald Trump. He gave these extremists the power, and now they totally control him. Even Mitch McConnell slams McCarthy and House Republicans for their insistence to shut down the government: "A vote against a standard short-term funding measure is a vote against paying over $1 billion in salary for Border Patrol and ICE agents working to track down lethal fentanyl and tame our open borders.”

We will not fund healthcare for illegals, but helpless women and children on WIC shouldn’t be punished for political fighting in Washington. The Republican-controlled Senate needs to stop playing games with America Last Democrats and use the nuclear option to pass the CR and fund the government so that innocent Americans aren’t hurt. And Republicans need to get back to work on our own appropriations bills and pass the policies that America voted for! I 100% agree with the cuts that Russ Vought is making, but the truth is that these cuts need to be made through Republican appropriations bills. And the government doesn’t have to be shutdown in order to make these cuts.
