Avg rent in Kearny Nebraska for two beds is $1250, $1700 on the extreme high end. No one is paying $2k a month... $55k can function quite well in that area of the country.

A single person yes 55k is probably more than enough but a house 2 adults and one kid that is no where near enough from bills, food, gas, and other unexpected expenses.
