I was young & on my bike - was followed & paced by a white van. I quickly turned a corner, ditched my bike under a bush, then scaled a fence & hid. Van sat there a while then left. SITUATIONAL AWARENESS IS CRITICAL, but also acting on it! Don't ignore gut feelings.. ACT ON THEM!!

If I saw a car doing that to a kid, would have to suppress my instinct to not hole punch that car.

When I was a kid, I was walking on the sidewalk with my friend, some dude pulls up and said he had puppies in the car and asked for directions if we could help him get to his destination. The girl standing beside me, said yes, I’ll go, I said no we are not going. Thank God, my mom and my dad taught me to say no to strangers

I've had ppl ask me why I look up when someone enters a restaurant and we're already seated. I will be the first to spot a threat when it enters, and I already scanned the room when I walked in. It's not paranoia, it's being smart....

One thing that's been surprising about fatherhood is how funny kids are Every single day, at least once, I find myself laughing hysterically at something one of my kids does My older son does exactly the same thing the kid in this video is doing He has some toy plastic tools, and the other day I was tightening some screws on our closet doors... He walked in the room with his plastic screwdriver and asked if he could have a turn... Then proceeded to (with extreme earnestness and intense focus) spin his plastic screwdriver against the screws 🤣

As a “Dad of Daughters”… I couldn’t agree more!! I did the best I could to teach mine… Actually had my youngest analyzing “ambush” / choke points when she was looking at apartments a few years ago… A proud dad moment. Teach them!!

Why is a girl that young walking by herself in the first place ?

I noticed she was on her phone moments AFTER this incident began. The visible signs of her situational awareness tells me she was texting someone IMPORTANT... mom, dad, cops. Maybe she was calling which would've been quicker, but louder. Good job, kid.

Had something similar happen to my 16 year old Son at a gas station the other night. He pulled into get gas, and two ⚫️s started eye balling his Audi. One circled around to where he had to watch him through his rear view mirror. Kept his doors locked, and left. 🧠👦🏼!

Self awareness, even for adults is everything

Yes, being aware of your surroundings is key. This happened to me and a friend when I was in my teens. A car full of men stopped and asked if we needed a ride. When we said no, one got out and chased us. We jumped a fence, but he couldn't get over it. He ran back to the car, and they hunted us down. We hid in bushes and under evergreen trees. As we lay on the ground, we saw their headlights as they slowly drove up and down the street. After about an hour, we safely reached a restaurant. We narrowly escaped.

Trust your animal instincts. How many times do we get the feeling but ignore it. If the lift doors open and you feel uneasy with the person in it do not get in. You can be polite and wait forvthe next lift

Smart kid! Situational awareness is EVERYTHING

This is horrible. I grew up like this because of where I lived when I was her age. It seems like this is a completely normal reality for all children now. This is horrific to constantly be afraid of being kidnapped.

I told my daughter to look in the backseat of her car before she gets in & to have her keys in her hand before she gets to her car or front door. You don’t want to be distracted rummaging In your purse. Prepare yourself mentally that you may need to gouge an eye out to escape

As soon as self-awareness is a natural behavior; we can instill hyper-awareness by the time they reach age 16-18. It isn’t enough to be “just aware” anymore. Also, tell children to get off Snapchat. No one should be on the app younger than 13, and it tracks location indefinitely.

Pay attention to your surroundings. If you suddenly get the sense you shouldn’t be somewhere, GET OUT OF THERE. If you do those two things alone you will be safer by an order of magnitude. 😎

That’s some sharp crisis sense. Probably comes from how your parents guided you through life. Still, trusting your gut matters it’s helped me pick the right answer more than a few times.

He is Absolutely Correct 👍. Situational Awareness is the #1 thing taught and reinforced in all CIA, FBI, Police and Military training. This is vital for kids to understand to avoid kidnapping which happens more often than people might think. “SA”,is also important with adults

Almost guarantee this POS has already been arrested and released 20x. Time repeal of cruel and unusual punishments. Hard to stalk kids/victims in a car after both your hands are removed with dull blades.

Parents need to train their children to not use headphones and stop looking at cellphones while out walking by themselves. Their lives literally depends on it. God bless you all.
