Teams have nullified Spurs by setting up plans to prevent their inverted full-backs from creating positional issues. Man Utd's 3-4-3 makes this challenging. They will want to put pressure on the ball. One of the 10's must jump, or Spurs will gain control.

After watching Man Utd at Chelsea, we expect Amorim's team to be aggressive. One central midfield player (Fernandes v Chelsea) will push onto the holding midfield player of Spurs. This will leave Casemiro vulnerable, and one centre back will need to step out.

To avoid Spurs gaining control, expect to see Diallo jump onto Van de Ven from his '10' position. Behind this, the Udogie will invert from fullback. This position will cause a problem due to the distances for the right centre back to jump.

Udogie or an advanced midfielder will drop into lower positions to create separation from the Man Utd centre-back. Maddison is normally excellent at this but is out. Man Utd's centre-back and wing-back must organise and shift quickly to prevent progression.

They struggled with this in the game at Spurs. In this game, they played a 3-Diamond-3. Amorim won't make the same mistake again, but he will need his defenders to move quickly if they want to play aggressively.

The 3-4-3 system will put a lot of Man Utd player in dual defensive roles. With Spurs full-backs inverted, Man United, defensively, will need to communicate, make decisions, and act quickly to avoid spaces appearing where Spurs can hurt them.
