APPLEBAUM: What Russians do is they put out not one lie, but million lies, or not one explanation, but one after another. It's a propaganda technique. They just flood people with massive, contradictory stories, and sooner or later, people won't pay attention to anything at all. And there's so much information all the time that people eventually just tune out, and they say, "I don't know what's true, I don't know what's not true, I don't believe anything, I'm not going to engage in this issue, I'm not going to get angry about it, I just don't want to know anything at all."

The scary part is that Stephen A Smith strong suit is supposed to be basketball. It’s just embarrassing. This is the guy you give all this money to and he doesn’t even know the basic facts about a team. ESPN can sit here all day and tell me his ratings. People are “hate watching”. Or even worse, they are watching to mock how bad it is. It’s akin to the later years of Mike Francesa at WFAN. Where people watched to hear the crank calls or to watch him falling asleep at the mic. It’s getting to that level of bad for ESPN when it comes to SAS. I don’t know anybody that watches him because they think they are getting anything substantive out of him. And that isn’t sustainable. I say it all the time. People don’t know what they like, they like what they know. Not. One. Person.

I'm no politician and no army general, but if you do the same thing again and again and use brute force again and again and it's not working, then you need to do something else. It can be because the people who manage it don't care about their own people — they only care about their own interests. We never know. If you don't ever have debates then the only way to get known is basically the person that raises the most money from special interests. And then you spend money to do it and if you're not able to do that, then you don't even get known to begin with and that's challenging. And I know when I ran in 2018, I got outspent probably three to one and I think having certainly the June debate that we did was a huge, huge thing to be able to inform people about who I was, what my background was, all these other things. So I think there should be debates generally. I don't think the party has any right to control the debates but I think how this was handled, you've got to be on the up and up here and you say you could do debate, do a debate! If you're gonna say other candidates can't do any other debate, but our debate, well, you definitely got to do the debate, right?
