Savyntsi is a village in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine. As of 2024, its population stands at 2,982 residents. The charitable organization "Ukraine TrustChain" has organized another round of aid for the Ukrainian people. The people are deeply grateful, and you can see it for yourselves on their faces. Today, I heard some very moving and profound words from a Kyiv resident: «Kyiv is not about the light in the windows; it is about the light within the people.» This city is experiencing power outages and cold weather more severely than most. High-rise buildings have been transformed from cozy apartments into refrigerators, a common problem people have faced this winter. Two months of winter are behind us, and each of you has seen in great detail what's happening and how difficult it is to survive. How difficult it is to perform the simplest tasks, like cooking for yourself and your children; how heating pipes burst in apartments and hot water floods apartments and floors of multi-story buildings, filling everything with thick steam. When better times come, and they surely will - each of us will look back at these videos from our cities and remember how tough it was, and how we had to remain strong, both physically and mentally. And those bright days will be cherished by us Ukrainians more than anything.

It is just as hard for animals; even for them, enduring the constant cold is a struggle. It is a relief when an apartment has gas, but many high-rise buildings don’t even have that. This winter has proven to be much colder and more difficult than expected, and as it turns out, we were completely unprepared for it. The state of Ukraine’s energy grid is critical. Today, due to russian strikes, Kyiv and seven other regions are without power. In the capital, some buildings are still without heat. In Zaporizhzhia, over 30,000 people have been left without electricity. The current attacks on urban infrastructure pose a real threat to human life. The russians are using the severe cold as yet another psychological weapon against Ukrainians! ... I saw this wonderful video filmed in one of the cities of my country, Ukraine. Whether it was the video itself or its combination with that beautiful melody, it caught my attention. In that moment, so many thoughts raced through my mind about what is happening to my people right now. About everything that people have been enduring for years in their cities and homes. About our defenders in dugouts and freezing trenches, who are deathly tired of it all... About the children shivering through these cold evenings and nights, whose childhood is nothing like what they deserve. About the winter, which has turned out to be very harsh this time. The President’s words that "a state of emergency in the energy sector will be declared in Ukraine." The words of the Mayor of Kyiv that "nearly 400 high-rise buildings in Kyiv remain without heating. Or the news that today in Kyiv, an entire family died because of a generator: having no heat and simply freezing, the people set up a generator on the balcony and went to sleep. The balcony doors were left open to the room... As a result of this tragic, the whole family perished, a 30-year-old woman and her parents. Or the news that there is a threat of a new massive strike by russia in the near future obviously targeting city infrastructure once again. It is hard to find the words when grief becomes a part of everyday life. The melody from the video continues to echo in my head, while the reality outside the window remains unchanged.

The heating situation in Kyiv is critical - 4,200 apartment buildings are currently without heating, and it will take weeks to restore heating in some of them.
