Tensions in Bawku escalated yesterday when a confrontation between local youth and police officers led to the death of a youth leader and injuries to several others. According to reports, tensions flared after police escorted a group of Mamprusi women to a market predominantly occupied by the Kusasi community.... The youth reportedly confronted the officers, questioning why they were escorting individuals they considered rivals into the area. The situation escalated, and police allegedly opened fire, resulting in the death of one youth leader and injuries to others. In retaliation, some irate youth are said to have set a police residential facility ablaze. Security has since been tightened in the area as investigations continue.show more
