Festus Petrus, the councillor of the Onesi constituency has confirmed that a man, believed to be a security guard at the Namwater offices in Epalela, was bitten by a crocodile spotted today at the Etaka dam in the Omusati region. The incident occurred when the man sat on the reptile to take pictures, after which it bit him on the left arm. He was promptly taken to Outapi District Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition. Today I went to the zoo with scharo. Even though it was a weekday, there were so many people crowded around that it was hard to take proper photos. Fortunately, since scharo is tall, I was able to get a good shot of Punch. Around us, there were many overseas media crews (I won't go into details) holding big cameras and capturing Punch as well. I also spoke with the zookeeper who was there. We talked about donations too, but they were extremely busy with work today, and since we showed up suddenly, we've decided to contact the zoo in advance by phone next time and visit to make the donation. Probably sometime next week. We're also planning to put up a billboard ad in NY. I've asked a friend who's a designer to create a proper banner ad for us, and it should be completed and launched within the next two weeks. I'll report back on that later. Punch's story is far from over. Still very bullish 🚀

Transformer by hand ✍️ ~ 6 steps walkthrough below Open the hood of a transformer and the parts list is overwhelming: embeddings, positional encoding, attention weighting, self-attention, cross-attention, multi-head attention, layer norm, skip connections, softmax, linear, Nx, shifted right, query, key, value, masking. Which of those actually make the car run? Two of them. Attention weighting and the feed-forward network. Everything else is an enhancement to make it run faster and longer, which is how we got from a car to a truck, and to the word "large" in large language model. So I drew and calculated those two parts entirely by hand. Goal: push five features through one transformer block, filling in every cell yourself. 1. Given Five positions of input features, arriving from the previous block. 2. Attention matrix Let us feed all five features to a query-key module (QK) and read back an attention weight matrix, A. The details of that module are a post of their own. 3. Attention weighting We multiply the input features by A to get the attention weighted features, Z. Still five positions. The effect is to combine features *across positions*, horizontally: X1 becomes X1 + X2, X2 becomes X2 + X3, and so on. 4. First layer Let us feed all five weighted features into the first layer of the FFN. Multiply by the weights and biases. This time the combining happens *across feature dimensions*, vertically, and each feature grows from 3 numbers to 4. Note that every position goes through the same weight matrix. That is what "position-wise" means. 5. ReLU We cross out the negatives. They become zeros. 6. Second layer Let us bring it back down: 4 dimensions to 3. Rantsycancy and Kyro are the first people in the world to figure it out, a ridiculously complex set of steps have to be taken for this one Here's how to solve it: 1 - Wait 15 minutes at the meat processing plant in teh basement to reset the game's flag tracking back to 0 2 - Once you're in the processer sequence in the basement, do not kill ANY zombies 3 - AFTER the basement, you don't need to pick up the severed hand, go to the toilets in the West Wing and flush one of the toilets exactly EIGHT times 4 - Now proceed normally with the story, once you get to the basement of Victor's office to get the pilot's key, as you are escaping, Marie's doll will spawn at the staircase 5 - Now finish the entire game with Marie's doll in the item box 6 - Start a new playthrough, play up to past the basement, pick up the severed hand, scan it then go to the East Wing, enter the code that I discussed in the original post at the Sun/Star/Moon machine in the East Wing WHILE carrying Emily 7 - You have completed RE9's Final Puzzle! What a ridiculously convoluted, confusing puzzle. So happy its finally solved!

Day 23 - well that hurt a lot The hike from BC to camp 1 - what a monumental day - one of the hardest sessions in my life We awoke at midnight, had ‘brekkie’ at 12.30am, and we were pretty much gone by 1.30am The icefall is like a big Jungle Jim set, with constant overhanging danger - for the most part it is quite good fun, but there are not many places that you can stop safely to rest. I was so busy that I did not get the camera out once, despite the fact that some of the photo opportunities were incredible When you get to the top of the icefall, there are a number of sheer walls that need to be jumar’ed up and this is where the first sense of false security set in - all of us thought that we were nearing the end of the day and that the tents of camp 1 were not too far off. Big bloody mistake - whilst the terrain looks gently undulating, it is cleaved by whopping big crevasses and gullies, which inevitably means you have to go down to come back up. Some of the ice walls we had to climb were at least 10m and there were multiples of them The video below show just how tired we were as we crawled into camp 1 (9:30mins later, 850m altitude gained). Beyond gassed.
