Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line is the most visually realistic war film I’ve ever seen- and there are a few that come close to this movie (Apocalypse Now, Platoon, Saving Private Ryan). While this film may not hold up narratively to other war films, the visuals are perfect.

Russian films are being nominated and celebrated at film festivals. Don’t watch them. This week an Oscar nomination went to an actor who is a Kremlin propagandist - In a film celebrating “Russian culture” These are not films they are Kremlin commercials. It’s no different to American festivals celebrating Nazi movies in the 1940s. The Documentary ‘Russian’s at war’- which premiered at Venice last year was made by RT. They are designed to convince the west there are two sides to this war. There are not.

While every trip to Israel is exciting and have been there close to a hundred times,I don’t recall ever having this level of excitement. I’ve had a few flights cancelled since the war broke out, and besides not liking being away from Israel when it’s under attack. This may be the longest time I’ve gone between trips in decades. Deputy Prime Minister of Canada Chrystia Freeland today commenting about the documentary. “There is a film that is due to be screened at Tiff today in Toronto about Russian soldiers at War. Ukrainian diplomats and the Ukrainian Canadian Community have expressed really grave concerns about that film and I do want to say I share those concerns. We have to be really clear that this is a war where there is no moral equivalency this is a war of Russian aggression this is a war where Russia is breaking international law and committing war crimes. There is very clearly good and evil in this war. Ukrainians are fighting for their sovereignty and for democracy around the world and we as a country have to be very, very clear that there can be no moral equivalency in our understanding of this conflict. It's not right for Canadian public money to be supporting the screening and production of a film like this.”
