behind the scenes! this isn't actually a real scene from skinamarink. it's 3d and built in blender, with tons of post effects on top that's my voice! the laugh was unintentional but i thought it'd be fun to leave it in (1/5)

the 3d render has a very low sample rate, which creates patchy and dreamlike denoising artifacts to achieve the film's look, i used blur and sharpen, grain, vignette, as well as the actual skinamarink grain that i stole from the movie and used as an overlay (2/5)

the tunnel is real in the first shot. when it appears, i zoom in a tiny bit to give the impression of an imperfect edit. in the second shot, the tunnel is a flat image that i rendered out from the first shot. this way it's both real and not real! (3/5)

for the TV screen, i made a shader that combines noise and wave textures with footage from the roadrunner cartoon. it uses an emissive material and helps to light the scene with a nice blue flicker (4/5)

thanks! i built and rendered it in blender with very low samples and denoise, then added blur, sharpen, color grading and grain in premiere
