She explains that certain proposals go far beyond politics and attack the basic right of a nation to function as a sovereign state. Stefanishyna argues that Ukraine cannot bargain away its alliances, its military capacity, or the safety of people living under occupation. For her, any ceasefire that traps civilians or ignores abducted children is not a path to peace. It is a deal that rewards aggression. "Speaking about Ukraine’s membership to the EU or NATO or any cap on the scope of our armed forces, this cannot be put on the same level as sovereignty. The ability for all Ukrainians to leave the territories under a ceasefire unconditionally is vital. The return of all abducted children of Ukraine unconditionally is also something that cannot be negotiated. Otherwise it will not be a territorial ceasefire solution. It will be pardoning the killer."
