This is going to be a growing problem that will be blamed on EVs and not substandard home wiring.

Yes it will. It’s actually kind of scary to think about.

Our builder also did bogus electrical stuff… The bar is solo for quality these days.

It’s so unacceptable in this day and age. We know way too much about electrical safety now

The outlet/wiring/panel almost caused a fire, not the mobile connector.

A 15 amp outlet on a 20 amp breaker is perfectly fine. The bigger issue is were you drawing 12 amps or pulling 16 amps out of that 15 amp outlet? The outlet is only rated for 12 amps continuously.

It was limited to 12 amps. Can’t pull any more than that standard. This is a dedicated circuit to just this outlet so it actually can’t be lower amperage outlet. If it was in a circuit with other outlets then it could is my understanding.

Yeah but wouldn’t the Tesla charger automatically limit it to the 12A (80% of 15) when using the adapter for this plug? Even with an oversized breaker this shouldn’t happen. More likely just bad connection or generally cheap outlet that failed.

Dude - what is up with the electric at your place? First the shock from the 30/50 amp (I can't remember which), and now this. Yikes! Glad you found it before something more serious happened.
