That's Chinese steamed eggs (蒸水蛋) in a wrong way: 1. use cold water. 2.water to egg ratio 1:1 can just use the eggshell to mesure water if eggshell still holds, a simple way to make sure 1:1 ratio.

That Rolex might be more legit than the recipe.

This is not a Japanese food at all. Your friend who told it was is unlikely to be Japanese, or you simply mistook the recipe.

I mean, to each their own but, wouldn’t this just taste like watery eggs covered in soy sauce?

Was that supposed to be an Omuraisu because I believe that’s not how it’s supposed to look like. This is my attempt at it. Still needs work but getting there.

That's incredibly ignorant. This is a traditional Chinese recipe, not a Japanese one.

This isn't a Japanese recipe. I've lived in Japan my whole life, and I've never seen a dish like this. Is it Chinese cuisine?

I suppose that is Chinese style. And here is a simple recipe of Chawan-mushi - the Japanese steamed egg custard.
