testing astra's parametric modeling capabilities by asking it to reconstruct these marble maze pieces from reference photos, and then use them in threejs to make a marble maze builder with box3d physics.

astra still did a lot of incredibly dumb stuff that made this really annoying and I had to point out very obvious things to help it build this correctly, but that was just to get it on the right strategy, it did the actual modeling

repo: hosted version:

Please share the live link. We were gonna do something like this, but if you want to collab on a video and we just plug in our API that sounds way more fun

I'm going to host it and post the code on github probably sometime tonight.

Fantastic

These are actually very important for marble computing. As you can see, marble computing is advancing at a geometric rate and we may need to have a pause.

Wow this is bringing back childhood memories.

ask it for some new concepts for crazy new pieces and print and try em

Inifinite recursion fractal marble machines on the menu for 2026!!!

what the, i had the exact same idea a while back, tough to build tho, i wanted like one of those marble machines like in the mall u know, or mousetrap games

@KinasRemek podobne do Twojego testu. Ciekawe!

Lol gotta put it on the town rug. Thanks for the flashbacks

It builds the pieces in 3d, assembles a maze, and simulates the marbles?

try this in solidSF :)

hf

Yessssssssss

Very nice but it loads super slow - 64MB download. 15 of that on the EXR for the HDRI. I would suggest optimizing the models so it is usable.

How was it able make the maze out of marble? incredible.

really nice

You sharing that library?

Does this give you a 3D editable file? I mean is it capable of generating an Inventor/Solidworks file for instance

this is awesome

Astra + Bambulabs = Kojima fabricator tech

As impressive as the marble simulation is, I was more blown away by the play rug choice, that is perfect.

fantastic

The geometry is one thing, making every slope behave right in Box3D is the real flex

Core memory unlocked

But what I am wondering is to point a telescope to 14 billion light years away and take picture and give that to Astra to model the early universe and the big bang in blender! 🙂

The carpet is a chef’s kiss

Very very impressed by Box3D handling this kind of concave collision detection so well. Do you know how many convex colliders make up each pipe?

Clean looking geometry.

This is an awesome demo. Which parametric modelling tool did you use? Could you share your thought process/prompts?

astra just used manifold: the process was basically telling it to find reference images, and build models, and me complaining about things wrong with the models until it fixed them (also I had to point out that it should probably make a system of reusable logic so that its not reinventing the wheel for each separate piece)

My kid would love a game like this. If you post the git, please reply. I'd love to make something out of it for him to mess around with

How did you get the channel slopes from the reference photos? I'd expect to need measurements for those.

lol this gave me pnsd post nirvana stress disorder good times

does anyone know a good harness model mcp combo for houdini vfx specifically

Did you experiment with effort levels or max for everything? I just finished using Astra to turn a cartoon into a Blender image, then into STEP files to print and did it mostly on Low and Medium...
