Last night, I asked Fable 5.1 and Astra to turn a 3D render into a real product. I asked for a full kit of parts, build instructions, software/firmware, and a new 3D render. And they delivered! Astra's design is simple, but strange — the "face" is on the back of the base. On the positive side, it has way fewer parts and therefore will be easier to build once the parts get here. Fable's design is more ambitious, and closer to the reference design. The build instructions are clear, though, so it seems buildable. The ultimate test is still to come... we'll see if they actually work! Ordered both sets of parts last night.

The production-ready Optimus design has been a mirage for Elon, but he's finally ready to invest in the first line at Fremont. Elon's response to the question on Optimus production target this year: - Delaying the Optimus 3 unveiling until closer to mass production, because competitors replicate each reveal with frame-by-frame analysis. - Production start target for Optimus: late July / around August 2026. - The first Optimus line will be where the current S/X line is at the Fremont factory. Final S/X batch rolls off in early May. - The S/X line can't be torn down instantly — dismantling has to start upstream (small parts production), not at final assembly. - Full dismantle of S/X line + new-line installation for Optimus + wiring + testing takes several months minimum; pulling it off in four months would be historically fast. - Refuses to predict 2026 Optimus output. New product, new line, ~10,000 unique components; ramp speed is gated by the single slowest/most troublesome component. - Initial ramp will be slow. First tasks will be simple in-factory work, then progressively more complex.
