A Baloch Girl speaking about the closure of girls' schools in Paroom, Panjgur. As she bravely says, their parents happily allow them for their studies, but the government has shut down the schools and not providing them with facilities for their studies. The schools are closed for years due to lack of teachers and other basic facilities. The students, mostly girls of Paroom, organized a protest demanding facilitation in schools. As per, Baloch Literacy Campaign report, there are sixteen schools which are closed in Paroom. Most of them are girls schools. We appreciate this small struggle of the students and are happy to see them raising their voice for their education. I want to speak directly to San Francisco’s public-school parents and our students. I know many of you are worried about the possibility of a teacher strike that could temporarily close schools—and I want you to hear this clearly from me: our kids come first. As mayor, even though I don’t oversee our school district, I’m deeply committed to making sure our kids get a world-class education—with safe public schools where kids can learn and educators are well supported. It is crucial that our schools remain open. Every day in the classroom matters. I have been in regular contact with both the school district and the teachers union, and I am urging them to keep talking so kids can keep learning. Our working parents can’t afford to stay home if schools are closed. Our special needs students can’t afford to lose access to vital services that help them succeed. Schools are the foundation that makes daily life possible and helps every family in San Francisco thrive. I am also actively working with city departments to ensure we have options for our students in the event that classrooms do close. But I want to make one thing clear—what is best for our students is for the adults to continue discussions at the table so we can keep kids in the classroom. I will continue pushing for solutions that keep our schools open and our students learning. San Francisco’s families deserve nothing less.

Today, the Senate HELP Committee voted to advance bipartisan legislation I introduced with Senators Tim Kaine and Lisa Murkowski to prevent the Department of Education from transferring critical offices responsible for special education and rehabilitative services, postsecondary education, elementary and secondary education, and Indian education to other federal agencies that lack the staff and expertise needed to execute their missions. One of the offices protected by our bill manages programs established under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, known as IDEA, that help meet the educational needs of more than 8 million children with disabilities. Moving this work to the Department of Health and Human Services fundamentally misunderstands the purpose of the Special Education program. It is focused primarily on students’ educational needs, not their health care needs. Every American, regardless of background or disability, deserves access to a quality public education. These important landmark programs must remain at the Department of Education, where Congress specifically placed them and where they belong.

Congratulations to the winners of the Third Annual #XOStudentDesignChallenge 👏 Eight Clark County-based students ranging from elementary school to college won the opportunity to have their Pi Day-themed artwork displayed on the Exosphere as part of a collaboration between Sphere, the Clark County School District (CCSD) and University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). In addition to having their work displayed on the Exosphere, winning CCSD high school and UNLV students received a $10,000 educational scholarship from Sphere. ALERT: Department of Education (ED) threatens to cut federal funding to a Colorado school district for allegedly letting 61 biological males participate in women's sports. Jefferson County Public Schools in Colorado received a letter stating they have 10 days to comply with ED or risk imposed enforcement actions, including losing federal education funding. One family, Joe and Serena Wailes, has even filed a lawsuit against the school district after the district tried to make their 11-year-old daughter share the same bed as a transgender student. The Wailes' daughter was eventually allowed to move rooms, but was told not to discuss why she was being moved from the room where she had to share the bed with the male student. Federal investigation uncovered that the district was also allowing the male students to access female-only facilities. ED's Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Kimberly Richey said, “As we continue to honor June as Title IX Month, the Trump Administration will not allow students to continue to be abused at the hands of a radical ideological agenda that undermines the basic protections to which they are entitled under law."

Chicago Public Schools just got another major break from the Illinois State Board of Education. Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, schools will no longer be downgraded for chronic absenteeism, even though 40% of students miss 10% or more of school days without a valid excuse. Now students can skip class for protests and walkouts without it hurting their school’s rating. This follows the state’s decision last year to lower proficiency cut scores on standardized tests, instantly inflating reported reading and math proficiency rates with zero actual improvement in student performance. Ben Bradley claims this redesign of the school report card is not meant to lower standards and give more schools better grades. Claiming that removing penalties doesn’t lower standards is pure gaslighting. If we lower standards enough, we can just declare every school a smashing success. This is how Illinois pretends to improve education.

12-year-old Matthew Jordan Jr. was repeatedly punched, hit, and grabbed by students on a Fort Osage school bus in Independence, Missouri while others laughed. Matthew has autism. His family raised concerns with the district beforehand and was allegedly ignored. This is unacceptable! 12-year-old Matthew Jordan Jr. was repeatedly punched, hit, and grabbed by students on a Fort Osage school bus in Independence, Missouri while others laughed. Matthew has autism. His family raised concerns with the district beforehand and was allegedly ignored. This is unacceptable! Every child deserves to feel safe, and it is the responsibility of our schools to protect them while in their care. Bullying in any form will not be tolerated.
