That's why I insist on a house with a basement.

To give you an idea of the destruction. The house across the way before and after?

At least the whole house didn’t come down. Poor guy, he really dodged a bullet.

Too many people don’t understand what happens with boards, furniture, cars and glass flying at 180 mph. Praise be to God that he and his dog were safe.

This wasn’t even a direct hit. His house was still there.

Why build houses with wood and shingle roofs in Tornado Alley instead of using concrete, steel beams, and double-pane high-impact windows?

When a man's voice does that (1:07) that's real fear

He actually got lucky. I have rebuilt houses that were half gone and it happens so quick the wires were stripped out of romex in the walls with the sheathing still hanging.

I’m genuinely curious why most Americans build houses out of wood work and cardboards why not concrete that can at least withstand some of these environmental hazards

If i decided to live near tornados, my home would block with 2 feet of reinforced concrete set in an earthen mound. Earthen mound homes are damn near tornado proof and quake proof.

Before going into the basement we used to open up all of the windows to equalize the pressure when tornados were close.

I think this was NJ. Only three miles from my house. Tore a line of destruction for a good five miles. It could have been much worse.

@OccultPatriot All the soulless libtards in the comments saying “God doesn’t like red states”, “don’t build your house in tornado alley”, “Oklahomans deserved it” …. meanwhile the video is from NJ 😂

If I ever move to tornado land, I want a great big tornado cellar separate of the house bc I hear too much about ppl getting squashed under their house if they go to a basement, or sucked out when the house is lifted. Separate storm cellar. Priority!

Glad he's ok, but if you have any type of storm that could bring wind with it, you should always put up anything on your deck that could go flying. A chair may not seem like a big deal, but it would be flying through the neighbors window.

I learned growing up in Oklahoma, where tornadoes - believe it or not - are a pride thing, is to open the windows to the house. The tornado creates an intense low pressure area just in front of its path that can cause the house to explode due to the pressure difference.
