We are seeing a lot of incidents about Kannada language/Hindi imposition in Karnataka. Why suddenly? Karnataka is going into elections in few months. They know they can't win on development or religion issue against BJP in Karnataka. Their best chance is with regional pride because BJP has an image of Hindi belt party in South. That's why southern parties evoke regional pride through language to keep BJP out. Mamata also used it in Bengal (Bahirgata). Karnataka has resisted this trick in recent years. Hope they do it once again and vote on real issues.
