That Boeing beacon light is pretty mesmerizing, huh? 🚨 The 787's beacon light flashes differently. Usually, they flash super fast once, but the 787 has this really slow, almost hypnotic flash. Boeing used to use xenon beacon lights. They're bright and can flash quickly, but they burn out faster... than LEDs. LEDs last 10 times longer and use 86% less energy. So, Boeing switched to LEDs. These lights are there to warn people around the plane. Since LEDs are brighter, engineers slowed down the flash frequency to make them even easier to see from far away. The 787 was the first Boeing commercial plane with these "slow" beacon and strobe lights. Now, Boeing uses this on all new planes made after 2010.show more

I love the way the Dreamliners strobe and beacon flash. Makes it look so much more graceful. Compared to 737NG/777s strobes which look like they’re in a hurry to turn off. Another reason why this is my fav plane of all time.

I always notice the 787s at night because of it. The LED switch making them both longer lasting and more visible is such a clean engineering win.

You’re not going to believe this one. Seattle is building these two nearly identical residential towers downtown, and they decided to hang a retired Boeing 747 fuselage right between them. The towers are mostly apartments, but that airplane section is actually going to be used as office and commercial space. Some people are already calling them the twin towers because they look so matching. It’s such a crazy architectural choice. It’s meant to be a tribute to Boeing, since the company was founded right there in Seattle. The fuselage is being used to physically connect the two towers as part of an indoor walkway between them. It really makes you wonder what the design team was thinking when they came up with this idea… and somehow got it approved. Would you want to live in one of the towers?

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg says the company is currently working toward a 737 MAX production rate of 47 aircraft per month, but the rate has not yet been stabilized. The ramp-up from 42 to 47 aircraft/month has taken longer than expected, with 737 MAX wings remaining the main production constraint. All MAX wings are manufactured at Boeing’s Renton facility, but Boeing has not yet achieved the wing-production improvement it had targeted. Driving through the pure darkness of Yellowstone in my Cybertruck really makes me appreciate how incredible Tesla’s engineering is. Tonight I tested every mode of the Tesla Off-Road Light Bar driving through the pure darkness of Yellowstone late at night in my Cybertruck. It really makes me appreciate how incredible Tesla engineering is. • Ditch Lights - The outer LEDs light up both sides of the road, making it much easier to spot wildlife, rocks, drop-offs, and the edges of the trail. • Flood Lights - The center LEDs shoot out an incredibly wide, powerful beam straight ahead, lighting up the road hundreds of yards into the distance. • Both - This is maximum visibility. The entire light bar comes alive, illuminating everything in front of you and on both sides with almost no dark spots. You can switch between each mode right from the touchscreen and even adjust the brightness to match the conditions. It’s one of those features you don’t fully appreciate until you’re driving through complete darkness. Just an FYI, these lights are designed for off-road use only. They’re incredibly bright and can blind other drivers, so they should never be used on public roads when other traffic is present.

Flight VN34 was departing for Hanoi when the aircraft rotated very late, lifting off near the end of Runway 26L. Ground footage shows the main landing gear coming off the runway with a cloud of dust behind it. There are reports that the aircraft may have struck equipment beyond the runway, potentially damaging runway lights and possibly the aircraft itself, though the reports aren't verified yet. After takeoff, the crew stopped the climb at around 9,000 ft and entered a holding pattern near Munich, likely to assess the situation and burn fuel.
