Why in the world is someone who’s normally so educated, telling such lies? That was a tiny fundamentalist sect that broke off in the 1800s, and has about is about 1/1000 the size of the mainstream church. Dishonest.

The Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints has always been the name of our church. Our enemies called us Mormons, and for a time we sort of accepted it. But we resent it. We’re disciples of Jesus Christ. This dude is either an evil liar, or he is an idiot.

We never ever changed our name. We’ve always been the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Always. That’s a fact. Anyone who tries to say otherwise is just lying.

So, you gonna apologize or...

Since children aren’t allowed in our temples, this rhetoric is a tough sell.

That man, whoever he is, is an evil liar.

This is what's called slander. The name of the Church has always been the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The official name of the Chruch has never been "Mormon" or "the Mormon Church".

He's incredibly wrong. The name of the Church has been The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since the 1800's. Some fundamentalist breakoff had some scandals, and that's what he's presenting as the main church. This is like claiming all Catholics are Palmarians.

Are you going to correct the lies that ignorant alcoholic spread or no?

"The Lord impressed upon my mind the importance of the name He decreed for His Church, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. ... It is not a name change. It is not rebranding. It is not cosmetic. It is not a whim. And it is not inconsequential. Instead, it is a correction. It is the command of the Lord. Joseph Smith did not name the Church restored through him; neither did Mormon. It was the Savior Himself who said, “For thus shall my church be called in the last days, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” Even earlier, in AD 34, our resurrected Lord gave similar instruction to members of His Church when He visited them in the Americas. At that time He said: “Ye shall call the church in my name. … “And how be it my church save it be called in my name? For if a church be called in Moses’ name then it be Moses’ church; or if it be called in the name of a man then it be the church of a man; but if it be called in my name then it is my church.” -3 Nephi 27:8 Thus, the name of the Church is not negotiable." - President Russell M Nelson
