Happy birthday to the legend that is Pat McAfee Everything he does is inspirational, including his insane generosity along the way. He doesn’t show everybody all of it. In December, Pat helped Luke and his family go to a Colts game without the risk of getting sick. In January, Nick sent Pat a video recreating one of his OSU calls from a Field Pass. He had just completed his cancer treatment. Pat decided to give him tickets to the national championship. Watching Pat grind his ass off to make the world a better place is the honor of a lifetime. Cuomo’s comments in this video regarding Kamala Harris, where he demeaningly referred to her as “Black female Jesus” and condescendingly referred to Black people as “you people,” reflect a pattern of racist rhetoric by the former anchor fired by CNN. He previously made a claim about being “Black on the inside” and even equated the term “Fredo” with the N-word. His reckless banter showcases a disturbing ignorance of the weight that racial language carries in America. His attempt to diminish the significance of Black leadership by mocking Harris as though her rise to become the vice president and nomination for president are superficial phenomenoms, rather than the result of hard-earned success in a country built on systemic racial inequities, is unacceptable. His thoughtless comments perpetuate harmful stereotypes about Black leaders, dehumanize their achievements, and trivialize the faith and support the Black community places in its representatives. For Cuomo to reduce Kamala Harris’ historic role to a caricature demonstrates his continued lack of respect for the Black community and its struggles. It is this kind of casual racism, cloaked in so-called political commentary, that fans the flames of division and undermines the progress we are fighting for. We cannot allow prominent voices to diminish the significance of Black leadership, nor can we stay silent when racially insensitive rhetoric is used to belittle our community. Chris Cuomo needs to recognize the damage his words cause and issue a public apology, not only to Kamala Harris but to the Black community as a whole. Remember how we said that Daba has a cheeky side? Today, it was out in full display! While the rest of the Nursery herd quietly browsed, he decided to make his own entertainment and recruited Keeper Peter for a game of hide-and-seek. The little bull would burst out of the bush, brimming with bluster and ears flared for full effect. Once he was sure he’d been spotted, he would dance his way back into hiding, only to emerge from a new location moments later. These games speak volumes about an orphan’s healing and emotional state. As we always say, a playful elephant is a happy elephant! Little Daba is one of the newest members of our Nursery herd. Rescued in October, he is starting to find his feet among his new family. Rejected by his own mother right after birth, his only comfort is a plushie called “Oran Mama.” Caretakers come only to feed him and give him a little love, but most of the time he is completely alone no one to run to, no one to play with, just him trying to figure out everything by himself. In the wild, he would not have survived more than a few days unless adopted by other monkey mama. But here in the zoo, he is still alive and growing against all odds.
