That is a beautiful sight! It’s amazing when you’re able to visualize the wake turbulence, landing gear drag and massive vortices created by a 747 in the landing configuration! When tower tells you “caution wake turbulence heavy 747” you’d better pay attention!

I thought it was smoke from the fires of hell since the orange demon was on board 🤣🤣

🤣 Bless your heart sweetie.

Some years ago I lived in Chicagoland under the O’Hare approach from the west. I would ride my bike around the deserted (Sundays) industrial parks close to the runways and watch the beasts float in. Shortly after a plane would fly by, you could hear the ghostly whoosh of the wake turbulence in the quiet. Very cool!

and that is why you stay 5 miles away from them

Recuerdo una escala en Detroit, allá por el 2016, United aún operaba el 747. Cuando despegaban la terminal temblaba.

Me lo imagino!

The Queen has arrived! How I miss the 747, she was a joy to travel on.

Cool video. I’m surprised by how much of a downward component the wake seemed to have. I expected more general “messiness” extending backward and less of a downdraft appearance.

There was a lovely Cargolux 747 parked for a few days at AMS. Unfortunately too far away for a decent photo..
