that one person who just blasted their way through a million different certs before becoming your coworker & now you have to train them how to read “show interfaces” on a 2960

i posted this on tiktok & a commenter went “wow, that’s impressive! congrats on all the certs!” …like i am so legitimately worried about people’s media literacy at this point

oh god so many people now think this is me saying i personally got all of these certs whyyyy

I love getting those new techs that blasted through certs and bootcamps, then when they get into your network they want to "optimize" to meet industry best practices. But their courses didn't account for specialized network connected software, custom vendor provided hardware

I blame the providers here. As an example, Cisco switching from simulations to 100+ questions sucked. CCNP and CCNA in 2016 you had to actually run cmds and read outputs to answer questions. Now it's a multiple choice exam.

How do I turn this into a joke about a Ethernet hub on a rocket…

Bought a Cisco switch at Defcon...knew nothing about these things. Learned out to flash it, show interfaces etc on my own. Certs are nice but they're a scam

Haha, had this at a previous job. New contractor had testkinged his way up to CCNP because he thought “it looked good on his CV and would help boost my daily rate”. Couldn’t remember how to configure ports, lasted about four weeks and walked out for a server admin job elsewhere

I worked with folks with certs that could not operate a Windows workstation. Same with ITT Tech degree holders before it went under. Obviously this is not wholly representative but it happens.
