Shortly after 5 pm yesterday, Deputies responded to a call for a dog in distress in the area of 228th and Harney Street, just south of Waterloo. When they arrived they were informed by homeowners that a dog had fallen through the ice on the lake and was treading water. Deputy Kubik, a DCSO K9 handler, made use of a kayak that was on one of the homeowner's docks and quickly made his way across the ice, using his oar to break the ice as he paddled to the dog. About the time he reached the dog, Waterloo Fire & Rescue also arrived and assisted in pulling Deputy Kubik and Boomer the dog back to shore. Once on shore, Deputy Clark took the 'chilly dog' inside to warm him up with a hair dryer. We are happy to report that after a brief vet visit yesterday, Boomer is doing great. Thank you to our courageous Deputies and our partners at Waterloo Fire and Rescue for their assistance.

One issue I truly hope will finally be correctly addressed post revolution, is the stray dog situation in Iran. Iran has absolutely beautiful dogs. They are gentle, affectionate, and remarkably calm. If you walk your dog outside, you risk it being confiscated. Even inside your own home, a hostile neighbor can report you simply for owning a dog, and authorities can act on that complaint. This creates an environment where ownership is punished, while the real problem continues unchecked on the streets. What Iran needs is a humane, practical, and modern solution: 1. A nationwide Catch–Neuter–Vaccinate–Release (CNVR) program 2. Properly managed municipal shelters with medical standards 3. Go pick it up and take it to a veterinarian if you want it to survive…” Then we went to pick up the dog 100 km from Warsaw. It was barely breathing. They told us it had just been running. We take the dog, go to a taxi, and they tell us: “Where is the money? Pay or we won’t let you take the dog. If it dies - you will deal with the transporter.” Then we went to a clinic and did tests. With 90% probability, it was a stroke, which led to severe neurological issues: the dog could not walk, eat, or drink, and was relieving itself while lying down. After the transport, it lost 30% of its weight, which has now caused gastritis, it also picked up parasites somewhere, and many other problems.
