Scientists have added emperor penguins to the 'Red List' of species at risk of extinction, warning that global warming has plunged the population into steep decline. The International Union for Conservation of Nature said climate change was rapidly melting the ice in Antarctica where the penguins breed and find food. The Antarctic fur seal has also been put on the endangered list.

Emperor penguins are threatened by shrinking sea ice in Antarctica, according to the British Antarctic Survey. The scientists observed the birds’ molting sites and found that when the ice breaks out from under the penguins when they are without their waterproof feathers, they can become hypothermic in the water. “This is totally new to us,” Peter Fretwell, lead author of the British Antarctic Survey, said on Feb. 24. “We could never see the emperor penguin molting sites before and it's only because the sea ice has contracted that we can, we can actually monitor them over this time period.”

And I’m not proud of this but — I’m not a cokehead, I get allergic — but there were some members of the crew that were doing coke and when the camera has to go up the stairs, down the stairs and turn around, at a point, my arms were hurting and my friends on the set were giving me coke. And you feel strong and you feel like a superhero, you run up the stairs and turn the camera. I was really happy that helped me achieve the scene. But after two days of shooting up the stairs and down the stairs and turning the camera, I’m not a strong man at all but the camera was very heavy.
