That tortoise has outlived every human that he’s met

This is Jonathan the tortoise, the oldest known living land animal in the world. He hatched in 1832 and will celebrate being 191 years old this year. The older picture is from 1886, taken on the South Atlantic island and British overseas territory of St. Helena, where he has spent the majority of his long life (minus the first 50 years or so). Although Jonathan is now blind and has lost his sense of smell, he continues to engage in his favorite pastimes: sun-bathing, sleeping, eating, and mating.
