Well, you’re an idiot for not just living with the scratch. Shit happens. Move on. Instead you probably wasted $15k or more to fix a scratch. You can’t fix stupid

Just offered a discount on the value of the warranty job. I’d absolutely rather pay five grand less for a car if you said there’s a bloody scratch on the top of the dash.

Add up the tech time to do that job and discount the car by half of that and it will sell in a day.

But isn’t that down purposefully so that car owners can’t fix issues with their cars on their own? Keeps the mechanics in business and given the extensive work that is required they’ll get paid handsomely.

Exactly what the engineers are trying to create- a one use part for a on use car. Make it so expensive to fix once it has some years on it that you just buy another one instead. Most consumer products seem to be going this direction.
