The SEED was used as a contraceptive, not the root. Apples, peaches, and cherries all have toxic seeds too.

So much disinfo spreaders... How to brainwash you into not eating #carrots. - Carrots do NOT stem from Queen Anne's Lace, they originated in the Himalayas. Cultivated by Dutch farmers. - Queen Anne's Lace SEEDS, not the ROOT, were used a as contraception method, not abortion.

Alexis333's profile picture

PLEASE DON'T LISTEN TO THIS WOMAN!! She has zero knowledge of what she's talking about. The roots of Queen Anne's Lace are highly nutritious and NOT abortive. If she had read beyond an article heading, she would have seen it's the SEEDS that are abortive, not the edible root. And PLEASE HEAR THIS: These seeds should be used only on rare occasions, not as a continuous birth control. This plant is actually why I do not support EARLY term abortion being made illegal, because nature did provide women with plants to protect themselves after being raped and I can't ever agree to outlaw the will of our Creator, even if I don't agree with it. Pro tip, take nature, foraging and plant medicine advice from people with dirt under their nails and twigs in their hair, not from someone that looks like their hunting and gathering only takes place at Neiman Marcus. She's a grifter. Learn the plants for yourself. The ones you find outside growing naturally are growing exactly where they will find the highest amount of minerals. These plants are so much higher in nutrition than anything you'll find at the store. But don't listen to this woman as she is CLEARLY seeking admiration and clout, not Truth.

All plant matter has defense mechanisms to humans. We're an acid based digestive system, not a fermentation based. We should be eating ruminant meat mostly. It's biologically complete for humans.

true? The video features a speaker claiming that carrots aren't real food, that orange carrots were invented in the 18th century from the wild carrot (Queen Anne's Lace), and that the wild carrot's root was historically used as a "morning after pill" because it was so toxic it could abort a fetus. She argues we've bred out some of the poison but shouldn't feed these roots to kids. This is mostly false or misleading, based on a mix of partial truths and errors. Here's a breakdown: History and Origin of Orange Carrots Wild carrot (Daucus carota), aka Queen Anne's Lace, is indeed the ancestor of modern domestic carrots. However, orange carrots weren't created in the 18th century—they emerged in the 16th-17th centuries through selective breeding in Europe, particularly the Netherlands. Early varieties were purple, yellow, white, or red; orange ones likely resulted from crossing yellow and other strains for better flavor and size. Some folklore ties the popularity of orange carrots to Dutch patriotism (honoring the House of Orange), but they existed in art from Italy and Spain in the 1500s and occurred naturally via mutations—not as a sudden 18th-century invention. Toxicity and Contraceptive Use The wild carrot root is not toxic and was never used as an abortifacient or contraceptive. It's edible (though tough, woody, and bitter when mature), with a carrot-like smell, and safe for consumption when young. The main risk is mistaking it for poisonous lookalikes like poison hemlock (Conium maculatum), which is highly toxic and can kill if ingested. The contraceptive properties are in the seeds, not the root. Queen Anne's Lace seeds have a long history in folk medicine (dating back to Hippocrates) as a potential morning-after remedy or fertility regulator, possibly by interfering with implantation due to compounds like apiol. Modern studies are limited, and it's not reliable or recommended as birth control (effectiveness varies, and it can cause side effects like kidney irritation). Domestic carrots don't retain any significant toxicity from their wild ancestors—the breeding focused on improving taste, size, and sweetness, not "breeding out poison" from the root. They're safe for kids (and everyone), providing vitamins like beta-carotene without any abortifacient risk. The speaker seems to be conflating the seeds' folk uses with the root, exaggerating toxicity, and getting the timeline wrong to push a "plants aren't food" narrative (possibly tied to a primal/carnivore diet angle, given her TikTok handle). Many replies on the X post call this out accurately. If you're concerned about veggies or foraging, stick to verified sources—wild carrot roots are fine but unappetizing compared to store-bought ones.

Nooooot necessarily true tho…. You would have to eat pounds of QAL to even get to a day after pill. Similar to apples and their seeds. But by all means stop eating them. No one will stop you

They thought tomatoes were poisonous. She is a clown. If veggies are bothering your system, you need to switch to organic, its the toxins in the herbicides and pesticides that are the problem, and many target the root to stop ground borers. "Cide" means death.
