Lack of realism = artistic style makes up for it and the brain fills the blanks using your imagination. The chase for photo realism in the late 00s onwards has led to boring looking milquetoast games. And yes, LOK series is still straight fire.

We really gotta give all our respect to the One Piece staff for using almost no CGI for the Gorosei. With such complex designs, I’m surprised they only used CGI for Mars, and that too just a couple of times. That's really insane 🫡🔥

The arrival of the gargantuan ships in INDEPENDENCE DAY is still one of the best effects sequences of the 90s. Great miniature work and CGI, real location shooting, tons of extras, a terrific David Arnold score and some incredible sound design.
